Update: The 5 winners of BOUND IN DARKNESS are…Marianne W, Sarah, lass1290, Wendy G, and Kathryn Anne Merkel. I’ll be sending you details about claiming your prize in just a little while. Thanks for all the comments!
Hi, everyone! My name is Cynthia Eden, and I will be blogging here every other Tuesday. I’m a southern girl, born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, and I’m a girl with a monster addiction.
Yep, I confessed. I love monsters. I love vampires. Werewolves. Fallen angels. Demons. Give me those supernatural characters, and you’ve got one happy lady.
So it’s probably no surprise that I spend my days writing about monsters. I write paranormal romances and romantic suspense tales. I like to write dark, and I like to make my characters work for their happy endings. Things can’t be too easy, right? A little death and mayhem can add a ton of life to a book!
Yesterday, I had two new ebook releases. One of those books was an charity anthology called ENTANGLED (Sayde was kind enough to blog about that one earlier for me–thank you, Sayde!). All of the proceeds from ENTANGLED are going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Yesterday also saw the release of my latest vampire/werewolf romance, BOUND IN DARKNESS.
BOUND IN DARKNESS features a very alpha hero, one with more than a bit of a dark side:
When it comes to killing vampires, werewolf Cade Thain is the best slayer in the Northwest. So when a witch hires him to take out a pureblood vamp, the assassin thinks it will be just business as usual. One less vicious vamp on the streets…one more undead parasite gone from the earth. Then he meets her.
Allison Gray isn’t the prey that Cade expects. Beautiful, innocent, she stirs a dark desire within him. Allison hasn’t transformed fully into a vampire, not yet, and it’s Cade’s job to make sure that she never does. Allison thinks that he’s at her side to keep her safe, but Cade is supposed to pick the right moment—and kill her.
Killing Allison is soon the last thing that Cade plans. As she begins the transformation that will turn her into a vampire, her bloodlust and their desire merge in an explosion of need that neither can control. But Allison’s enemies are closing in, and the coming battle will take Cade and Allison beyond life, beyond love…and into a deadly darkness that waits to claim them both.
I’d love to giveaway 5 digital copies of BOUND IN DARKNESS today. I can send the winners Kindle versions or you can use Smashwords to get the book in a variety of formats. It will be winner’s choice. 🙂 So, want to win? Then just share one of your addictions with me. I confessed to my monster addiction (and, I’ll go ahead and confess to a major chocolate addiction, too). But what about you? What addicts you?
Thanks for checking out my post!
Hi ya’ll, Danica Avet here. Did I catch your attention with the title? I think I might have learned that trick in college. Something a professor mentioned about how it’s bad to bring a roll of toilet paper to the podium with you so you can catch everyone’s attention. But that’s not what I’m talking about today.
I’m here to introduce myself. Obviously my name is Danica Avet. I write erotic paranormal romance and I like to say I do it with a touch of Cajun spice. I’m not really Cajun. My family didn’t come to south Louisiana from Canada, but kind of like the Coneheads: “We are from France.” However, blood lines aside, I’ve lived in south Louisiana all of my life and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I love sharing the traditions and cultural aspects of life here with others and I definitely add it to my stories.
Did I mention that I love writing? I have four books in the Veil series with Siren publishing and so many other stories waiting to be written. I love rewriting myths, taking an old legend and turning it around to suit my somewhat deranged sense of humor. Amazons, minotaurs, killer nymphs (bwahaha), corporate immortals, shape-shifting reindeer…yeah, I like to write about weird. It pleases me and hopefully has entertained, or will entertain, readers. Cause uh…I’m supposed to be writing for other people, huh? That might have been in the Newbie Writer’s Handbook I never read.
I’ll probably talk about a lot of weird things on my blog post days, but there’s usually a point to my ramblings. Honest. There is a method to my madness—most of the time. So I hope you enjoy the ride.
Oh and before you think I lured you here under false pretenses, here’s the no full-frontal nudity the other ladies made me swear on…which was hard for me to do. Did I mention I love to ogle smexy men? A day without eye candy is like a day without reading!
I do love me some football…rar. And see? No nudity…darn it!
I don’t know about you, but I get hand-sweating, knee-shaking nervous when I meet new people. You wouldn’t think it—me being an extrovert and all—but it’s true. Since I took the first step toward publication three years ago, I’ve met so many wonderfully talented writers that I’m now blessed to call friends. Along the way I’ve learned that great writers are amazing, yes, but they’re people made of skin and sinew just like me. They have fears of failure and hopes of topping the lists. They chew over sentence structure and mull over layering character development. It’s easy to forget that all writers struggle when I’m sitting in my chair hacking away at my keyboard (absolutely positive that my words are shit) while I stare at a perfectly printed bestseller smiling from my bookshelf.
Knowing all that, I still freak out at that first hand shake. The first “nice to meet you” exchange with an author I’ve put on high. Like the time I met one of my writing heroes Jayne Ann Krentz. She came to my neck of northern California for high tea and signing at Kepler’s.
Can you see my smile faltering from nerves? No? Good.
I freaked the first time I met my agent, my editor, and the president of my publishing house. (Oh, that’s another great story for another time.)
Despite my lip twitching, palm sweating, knee buckling fears, I know that to survive in this business, you have to reach out to others. (I’m the President of the San Francisco Area RWA and attend the national conference every year.) You have to put yourself out there—and not just through social media, although that is the wave of the future. (I blog at http://www.pararomance.blogspot.com and here, with these fine ladies!) You have to submit your work to writing peers and listen with an open heart. (I have a handful of critique partners that I’m so blessed to have.)
I’m not saying you have to volunteer your time to your writing community or blog away your inspiration. Not at all. Remember there’s no golden rule to writing and publication. You have to do what’s comfortable for you and your career.
So here’s my introduction after the few facts I managed to slip into my post: I’m a wife to one fine example of a hero and a mother of two. (They act more like a wolf pack than I want to think about at the moment.) I live in northern California and have been writing for three years. My first novel, a romantic suspense titled Dark Tide Rising, was published from The Wild Rose Press in February 2011. InterVamption, my dark and gritty paranormal romance novel from Avon Impulse, released July 26th.
The second in that series, Vamped Up, is slated to release December 6th, 2011. I love Starbucks more than I should and the gym less. Chocolate can always be found in my purse, along with a paranormal romance novel… and a pocket knife. A girl can never be too prepared.
It’s nice to meet you. 😀
So, I thought I’d show everyone the very cool advertisement Kensington has sent out for her series.
How awesome is this?!?
Notice at the bottom there are directions to enter a contest on twitter and win a signed copy of SHADOWMAN.
I don’t need one because I talked Erin’s editor into giving me an ARC when I was in NYC. 🙂
I’m so glad to be blogging with all these wonderful ladies! Since this is my first post, let me introduce myself; I live in the South with my family and despite the humidity and hurricanes in the summer, I absolutely love it here. I write paranormal romance and romantic suspense (and under a pseudonym, I write erotic romance of all subgenres). Even though I’ve been reading romance for years, paranormal romance is something I didn’t discover until a few years ago and a whole new (awesome) world opened up to me. Reading and writing without the normal ‘rules’ of this world is always an adventure. Vampires, shifters, fae, angels, demons … I love them all! People and their motivation for anything have always fascinated me so I pursued and earned a degree in psychology. I like to think I’m putting that degree to good use with my writing.
In October, Destined Mate, releases from Harlequin Nocturne Cravings (the Cravings line is replacing Nocturne Bites which will continue to be published through December). One of my favorite movies is Underworld Rise of the Lycans. **Spoiler** I’ve watched it so many times and even though I know the ending, each time I hope the two main characters (werewolf and vampire) will get their happy ending. Sadly they never do ultimately because of species differences. I wanted to write something where two characters from different worlds overcame their differences and got that HEA two of my favorite characters never did. So, Destined Mate was born. What’s it about? Almost a century ago Angela was turned into a vampire against her will so she ran from her werewolf lover rather than face his disdain for her kind. After her best friend turns up missing, she has no choice but to follow the trail straight into a den of wolves and the arms of the man she fears most.
I’ll be blogging here every other Tuesday so in a couple weeks I’ll have a much more entertaining post than an introduction! Thanks so much for stopping by 🙂
Hello all! Here is the second and final set of winners!
JoAnna B won Cynthia’s choice.
Michelle Bledsoe won Destined Mate when it releases I. October.
Kim Freeman won Untamable.
Na won Deadly Obsession.
Raonaid Luckwell won one of Danica’s Veil series.
Thank you all for participating and I hope you enjoyed the fun filled weekend!
Hello everyone! I closed the contest during the wee hours of the morning. I am so excited to announce the winners which I will later in this post. I’ll post winners in two groups, check back later for the second group! Yes, I am being difficult! It’s just the way I roll 🙂 And you will learn I am totally full of bull and love picking around! You’ll either love me or hate me 🙂
The first order of business though is for me to introduce myself. After the scavenger hunt I am guessing you all realize that I also write a lot of stories about cowboys. Its true. I love writing stories about the west and handsome strong cowboys. But my first love as a reader came in the way of a demon. Being from the south, the Bible Belt, I was beyond shocked to find I loved reading about demons struggling to be good. I mean demons are bad!! Really bad, we aren’t supposed to cheer for them! On top of that, I was even more confused when I read my first novel where the evil vampire loved being the evil bad guy and I loved him for it. That is not supposed to happen right? Wrong, the guy was just such a good bad guy that I had to admire him!
After a few years of reading everything I could get my hands on(well romance wise) I began writing my own stories. The first ones sucked and I still struggle to keep the new stories from sucking, but I’ve managed somehow to become a published author. During the process I’ve found I’m a blender, no you can’t stick ice in my mouth and tap me on the head to grind it up. What I mean is that while some authors tend to write in one genre I write all over the place. I love blending my cowboys with demons or making my shifters vampires too! Creating new and exciting characters, settings, and worlds are just a few things I love about being a writer.
I enjoy writing paranormal stories because you can create so many different scenarios for your characters. In my latest series, Gabriel’s Army, a select group of angels and demons are led by the Angel Gabriel to harvest souls of the earths most wanted, good or evil beings. The angels and demons in this army must transport souls to the Haven where the souls are judged and sent to heaven or hell. It’s all very dramatic at the Haven, because both want as many souls as they can get to tip the balance of the age old fight between good and evil.
To become a soldier in the elite army the angels and demons must first live as humans, born into the world with a soul until Gabriel comes for them. Oh the complications of being a human! Gabriel must take their humanity and soul when the time comes and take them from their life as humans. Each member loses the ability to feel human emotion so they can harvest souls without prejudice or remorse. But what happens when one soulless soldier is reminded of what it was to have a human life and be loved? What happens when he comes face to face with the woman he left behind and the child he never knew he had?
Being a blender, I made sure to bring my demon Kipling a little western flair. He’s an ex bull rider 🙂 and currently a soulless demon! His is the first in my series and I’m looking forward to bringing you many, many more sexy complicated stories.
But we all know what you want, the list of who won what!! I know, I’ve rambled on long enough about my new series, but I’m really excited dang it!!
