I’m Jan Springer and my dream job has always been writing. I got what I wished for because …years ago after a car accident that left me with whiplash and positional vertigo (still have it), my dream job became a necessary reality!
Some of my stories run on the dark side. My Desperadoes series is based on solar flares taking out our electrical grids with women having to do things they’d never dreamed of doing in order to survive. My Outlaw Lovers series gives a very dark glimpse into the future where women have lost all their rights and become nothing more than men’s possessions.
To take a look at my other hot and dark books give my website a try. Lots of books there.
I live and write in Ontario Canada, commuting between Oshawa and cottage country near Haliburton. Three huggable cats have adopted me. The oldest is Spunky, he’s 18, the middle is Emily, she’s 11 and the youngest is Chee Chee (who loves cheese) is 4.
I love photography, nature walks, gardening and updating my website http://www.janspringer.com.
So! What’s your dream job?
Are you living it, working on making it come true or just keeping it your dream for now?
Let me know in the comments section and I will pick a name to win a free pdf copy of Passionate Ink, my shapeshifter/tattoo/tentacle erotic romance. Winners names for prizes will be announced in a few days so don’t forget to check back!!
Thanks for joining us at Darker Temptations and until next time, Happy Reading!!
I’m so happy to be joining these other great authors on this blog. 🙂 As we celebrate our kickoff, I would like to tell you a little bit about me and what I write.
I am married with five kids—hectic is a mild term—and an erotic romance writer. I worked as a nurse in pediatrics for a number of years until it became really hard with all the kids for me and the hubby to both work. So while at home I started playing with writing. I never thought it would go this far, but I am so happy that it did. I love telling stories and I love alpha heros. 🙂
So here’s a little bit more about my books.
Secrets of Night (The book that started it all)
When the tenuous peace between the Sorceresses, Vampires, and Shape-Shifters is shattered, Kierra, Sorceress Senator for the Order of Night takes it into her own hands to discover the reasons why.
As the Vampire member of the Triad for the Order of Night, Kale is no stranger to war, but isn’t eager to battle anew without cause. His investigation into the allegations that the Shape-Shifters are the breakers of the peace treaty are thrown askew when the woman who has haunted his lusty dreams is found doing recon of her own.
As the body count rises and more women disappear, Kierra and Kale race against the clock to uncover the secrets the Shape-Shifters are keeping. Imminent war and forbidden attraction threaten to implode their progress, while Kierra’s secrets may very well tip the scales of power.

“There is action, romance, sex, and intrigue. Throw in some paranormal elements and it makes for a very fun read. You’ll want to keep an eye out for future novels by this author.
Deceptions of Night
Tempers run hot through the members of the Order of Night as Lex tries to settle in as the new Triad vampire. But when a jaguar attacks him in his bed, his life gets turned upside down, and he discovers a new meaning to keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.
Kill the triad vampire or your brother dies. Shayla grudgingly accepts the assignment. But she soon realizes that success is easier said than done as she lies prone, trapped against the floor and secured by the body of one pissed off sexy leech.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Lex wants answers and Shayla wants her brother returned alive. They form a shaky truce as they seek out the man who has both. Fierce attraction pushes them closer as mistrust tears them apart. Deception lays in wait around every corner as they struggle to find the master mind behind the traitors to the Order of Night. As the tension rises, desire begins to burn with an intensity that threatens to consume, leaving them to question whether they can find what they seek with their lives and hearts intact.

“With a Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibe to this story, Ms. Cavanaugh takes action, adventure, and sexual tension to another level with this latest addition to the Order of Night series. I am very satisfied with how Lex’s story turned out and even more excited for Ms. Cavanaugh to continue with the next in this series.

“Deceptions of Night was a very fast paced story, with lots of action, adventure, suspense and romance. I will definitely be looking for the next book in the series. (gotta know what happens next!) . . . a great mix of both paranormal romance and romantic suspense. Since I love both genres it was a delightful combo in my opinion.

“I love the characters in the story and the rhythm of the writer’s words….I highly recommend to fans of the paranormal not to pass up Virginia Cavanaugh and the Order of Night series; myself, I am already looking for the first book in the series.
The Fire Inside
Werewolves be damned. Tyra Smith had chosen to leave behind her very own nature to protect her heart after the heart wrenching loss of her own pack. She wanted nothing to do with another wolf. Never again wanted to feel the deep pain of loss. At least until a sexy as sin wolf named Konrad showed up, saving her from the roaming paws of another wolf.
The sparks of lust ignited a desire that burned with hellish intensity inside her, making her crave something she’d dared to forsake. The ability to resist waned. Was it a true mate bond that pulled her to him or just the heat cycle she was entering? Something only time could tell.
When a real threat from another pack presents itself, Tyra must move into Konrad’s den for her physical protection. But as things continue to heat between the two of them, would he also be able to protect her heart?
This is my brand new paranormal release from Ellora’s Cave!
Check out my other releases on my Amazon page. 🙂
Two names will be randomly drawn from the comments below to win an electronic copy of Secrets of Night. Good luck!
Hello and welcome to Darker Temptations. I’m excited to a part of this fabulous group of writers. I’m Sabrina and today’s give away is a $10.00 gift card from either Amazon or Barnes and Noble (your choice). Let me introduce myself and then I want to hear about you.
First thing you all need to know about me is that as much as I love to write, I hate to write about myself. So I’ll rely on my virgo practicality and organize.
The Personal Lowdown
I’m a single mother of a nine year old (going on 16) who is the source of my profoundest joy and the greatest exasperation known to man and monster. You may know how that goes. 😉 Exploration is built into my DNA so I tend to be in perpetual motion, having lived in many places—Washington, D.C., Chicago, Boston, Vienna, Austria, Florence, Italy, London, UK to name a few–and visited an awful lot more. That wanderer gene explains my love for books, the paranormal and science fiction—“to go where no one has gone before.” For years of my youth, I wanted to be an astronaut, just to see what’s out there. Stuck on earth, I live out those fantasies by just making it up myself.
I write paranormal, science fiction, romantica and contemporary. My focus is less on genre and more on characters and the best setting for them to struggle and shine. Strong, kick ass women who have as much pain to work through as the damaged hero they love are my passion as a writer and a reader. Life is hard and I like to see people move beyond their own limits. I have found much of my own inspiration to go further and higher from book heroines and heroes. Writing is my way of giving back to something that has been important to me.
Stuff I Like
- Coffee. I can’t seem to get by without it. I tried to give it up, several times, but…
- Movie nights with pizza, popcorn and beer (or wine) and don’t forget the loved ones.
- Sunday night storms when I am all snuggled up inside.
- Walking down the street eating a coffee ice cream in a sugar cone covered with chocolate sprinkles.
- Scrabble, boggle, banagrams (word games, love word games).
- Lord of the Ring Trilogy, Dr. Who. Star Trek, Disc World, True Blood and the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.
- To quote Crash Davis in the movie Bull Durham “ long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.”
I’d like to know more about you. To win the $10 gift card, let me know one of your favorite things and your email address. The winner will be chosen using random.org random number generator at the end of all the contests on October 15.
For the next two weeks, each blogger will pick a winner. comment each day for a chance to win prizes from each author. Good luck! Winners will be announced on October 15th, so be sure to check back!
Thanks for visiting. I blog on Darker Temptations every other Tuesday and I love to chat. Stop by and see me.
Fires of Justice Releases October 17.
Hi ya’ll, Danica Avet here. Did I catch your attention with the title? I think I might have learned that trick in college. Something a professor mentioned about how it’s bad to bring a roll of toilet paper to the podium with you so you can catch everyone’s attention. But that’s not what I’m talking about today.
I’m here to introduce myself. Obviously my name is Danica Avet. I write erotic paranormal romance and I like to say I do it with a touch of Cajun spice. I’m not really Cajun. My family didn’t come to south Louisiana from Canada, but kind of like the Coneheads: “We are from France.” However, blood lines aside, I’ve lived in south Louisiana all of my life and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I love sharing the traditions and cultural aspects of life here with others and I definitely add it to my stories.
Did I mention that I love writing? I have four books in the Veil series with Siren publishing and so many other stories waiting to be written. I love rewriting myths, taking an old legend and turning it around to suit my somewhat deranged sense of humor. Amazons, minotaurs, killer nymphs (bwahaha), corporate immortals, shape-shifting reindeer…yeah, I like to write about weird. It pleases me and hopefully has entertained, or will entertain, readers. Cause uh…I’m supposed to be writing for other people, huh? That might have been in the Newbie Writer’s Handbook I never read.
I’ll probably talk about a lot of weird things on my blog post days, but there’s usually a point to my ramblings. Honest. There is a method to my madness—most of the time. So I hope you enjoy the ride.
Oh and before you think I lured you here under false pretenses, here’s the no full-frontal nudity the other ladies made me swear on…which was hard for me to do. Did I mention I love to ogle smexy men? A day without eye candy is like a day without reading!
I do love me some football…rar. And see? No nudity…darn it!
I don’t know about you, but I get hand-sweating, knee-shaking nervous when I meet new people. You wouldn’t think it—me being an extrovert and all—but it’s true. Since I took the first step toward publication three years ago, I’ve met so many wonderfully talented writers that I’m now blessed to call friends. Along the way I’ve learned that great writers are amazing, yes, but they’re people made of skin and sinew just like me. They have fears of failure and hopes of topping the lists. They chew over sentence structure and mull over layering character development. It’s easy to forget that all writers struggle when I’m sitting in my chair hacking away at my keyboard (absolutely positive that my words are shit) while I stare at a perfectly printed bestseller smiling from my bookshelf.
Knowing all that, I still freak out at that first hand shake. The first “nice to meet you” exchange with an author I’ve put on high. Like the time I met one of my writing heroes Jayne Ann Krentz. She came to my neck of northern California for high tea and signing at Kepler’s.
Can you see my smile faltering from nerves? No? Good.
I freaked the first time I met my agent, my editor, and the president of my publishing house. (Oh, that’s another great story for another time.)
Despite my lip twitching, palm sweating, knee buckling fears, I know that to survive in this business, you have to reach out to others. (I’m the President of the San Francisco Area RWA and attend the national conference every year.) You have to put yourself out there—and not just through social media, although that is the wave of the future. (I blog at http://www.pararomance.blogspot.com and here, with these fine ladies!) You have to submit your work to writing peers and listen with an open heart. (I have a handful of critique partners that I’m so blessed to have.)
I’m not saying you have to volunteer your time to your writing community or blog away your inspiration. Not at all. Remember there’s no golden rule to writing and publication. You have to do what’s comfortable for you and your career.
So here’s my introduction after the few facts I managed to slip into my post: I’m a wife to one fine example of a hero and a mother of two. (They act more like a wolf pack than I want to think about at the moment.) I live in northern California and have been writing for three years. My first novel, a romantic suspense titled Dark Tide Rising, was published from The Wild Rose Press in February 2011. InterVamption, my dark and gritty paranormal romance novel from Avon Impulse, released July 26th.
The second in that series, Vamped Up, is slated to release December 6th, 2011. I love Starbucks more than I should and the gym less. Chocolate can always be found in my purse, along with a paranormal romance novel… and a pocket knife. A girl can never be too prepared.
It’s nice to meet you. 😀
