Dark, Darker, Darkest…

Your assignment, should you chose to accept it, is to write free form to the prompt an even darker temptation. Here goes.

Darker Temptation conjures up images of lust, and chocolate, and swigging champagne out of the bottle with no thought for cost or the next morning. Its shifters with night-glow predator eyes, a vampires with blood streaked around his lip like smeared lipstick that somehow has your body shivering in anticipation. Its lurid thoughts of blindfolds, handcuffs or whipped cream, whatever works for you. Darker Temptations are the unexpected feelings of pleasure you get when you just aren’t supposed it.

So what’s an even darker temptation?  It stepping past boundaries you could never imagine yourself crossing.  Being tied up naked on a stage while person after person pleasures you to the applause of cheering crowds. And screaming like you’ve never screamed before.  Its snatching a piece of jewelery, something you’ve always wanted, and one day, its there, in front of you. You reach out your hand. You can touch it. Its cold, smooth, with the sharp angles of a perfect gem cut.  Never before have you seen an emerald that big. You’ve worked hard, you deserve it. So you take it.

An even darker temptation has you digging deep, deep, down to the place inside yourself that you fear, will break free and consume you. Some of it is bad. Some of it is not. But its part of you.

Your turn.  What does an even darker temptation conjure up in your mind?  Bwhahahahahaha!

Life is risk. At any age. My new novella, Life Reignited is releasing September 3 from Ellora’s Cave. I’m excited. My lovers are 50+ part of a new series, VaVaVaBoomers. Because playing with temptation is not age delimited.  And its time we celebrated that.

I Want It All

If I could be a shifter, what would I be?

I want it all, the whole shifter experience. Like Sam Merlotte in True Blood, able to turn into any animal he can visualize.

Every fantasy made manifest.

Fly like a bird.

????????

Run as fast as a cheetah.

Swim with the dolphins.

Hunt with a wolf.

Gray Wolf in Snow

The idea makes me greedy, hungry to taste the whole of what the earth has to offer–experiences that humans either don’t see or use technology to access. But let’s face it, flying in a metal plane couldn’t possibly come close to catching a wind current in your feathers.

Yes, I want it all. What about you?  Could you pick just one?

It ain’t the kink, its the story

Bulletproof Kink — What gets you going no matter how badly it’s done?

So I’ve got two ways to approach this–what turns me on no matter what when I’m reading sex or just what always turns me on.  I’m feeling a bit indecisive so I’ll opt for both.

Kink in books

I feel I need to start with the disclaimer–I write sex, I read sex, I like sex, but there’s no kind of sex that keeps me in a story I don’t like.  Period.  That may not be true for others, but its true for me.

On the flip side, romance novels without sex generally don’t work for me.  There are always exceptions for the well written but  if there isn’t something explicit, I feel like the book and the relationship is incomplete.  Why? Because how people make love, how they are together in the bedroom (or shower or kitchen table or the corner of restaurant or airplane bathroom)  is an integral part of who they are together.  What they dare or don’t dare, how they work out the intricacies, how they communicate sexually is as fundamental to their relationship as the first kiss, negotiating a compromise, the nature of an apology etc….  When I get the fade to black, it homogenizes the hero and heroine–I lose a part of them.

The kink doesn’t matter if it is true to the nature of the relationship and the story–if it reveals how our lovers truly play with each other. That’s the key-sex like anything else defines a relationship, so yeah, I want to see it.

Getting personal

Over the years, no need to share just how many, I’ve learned a thing or two.   Factoid; the body changes so what turns it on, and how its turned on, changes too.  No surprise if you really think about it.  But for me a few things have remained constant–especially a certain body parts that if touched, always, and I mean always, gets a rise out of me. Which?

The neck.

Its no wonder vampires and shifters (think biting and mating)  play such key roles in erotic romances.  Offering up the neck puts a person in the most vulnerable position imaginable, which makes it, by definition, an act of trust that meshes sex and love in a single touch.  If you want to know my flame-on button, lips (or pretty much anything else) on the neck will always get you there.

What about you? Is sex integral to a romance?  If so, why and when?

Furtastic

In case you didn’t know, here at Darker Temptations, we like our romance with a little bite. In my case, I like it with a lot.

I’m a shifter fanatic. I love reading about them, writing about them and daydreaming about them. I’ve always thought it would be awesome to be able to shift into a big cat. Sorry, I have nothing against wolves, but I’m a cat person through and through.

So when this topic popped up on the calendar, I immediately thought about the heroes I write about and how I’d want our first date to go. You know, if they were interested in a short, curvy, anti-social writer who prefers staying home and watching football and ogling hot men. Uh. You know…whatever.

Okay, obviously we couldn’t go to a football game. As much as I love the game, I wouldn’t want someone to see me acting like a maniac on our first date. It just doesn’t make the right impression. You know, of ladylike poise and language.

We couldn’t go to a heavy metal concert unless he was a fan and wore earplugs. I wouldn’t want the poor guy to go deaf because we were right next to the stage. They have sensitive ears, you know. Besides, sweating and rubbing up against complete strangers isn’t romantic. Well, unless you’re into orgies. *shuts up*

I think the best thing for me to do with my shapeshifter date is to stay home. He can cook for, lest you think I’m capable of cooking. Rub my feet. Feed me bon-bons and laugh at my jokes as we watch horror movies because it’s my remote and I control the television. Later, I’ll brush out his fur while he licks his balls.

It’s a perfect kind of relationship.

Give Away, Day 2, Sabrina Garie

Hello and welcome to Darker Temptations. I’m excited to a part of this fabulous group of writers. I’m Sabrina and today’s give away is a $10.00 gift card from either Amazon or Barnes and Noble (your choice).  Let me introduce myself and then I want to hear about you.

First thing you all need to know about me is that as much as I love to write, I hate to write about myself.  So I’ll rely on my virgo practicality and organize.

The Personal Lowdown

I’m a single mother of a nine year old (going on 16) who is the source of  my profoundest joy and the greatest exasperation known to man and monster.  You may know how that goes. 😉  Exploration is built into my DNA  so I tend to be in perpetual motion,  having lived in many places—Washington, D.C., Chicago, Boston, Vienna, Austria, Florence, Italy, London, UK to name a few–and visited an awful lot more.   That wanderer gene explains my love for books, the paranormal and science fiction—“to go where no one has gone before.”  For years of my youth, I wanted to be an astronaut, just to see what’s out there.  Stuck on earth, I live out those fantasies by just making it up myself.

My writing

I write paranormal, science fiction, romantica and contemporary.  My focus is less on genre and more on characters and the best setting for them to struggle and shine.  Strong, kick ass women who have as much pain to work through as the damaged hero they love are my passion as a writer and a reader.  Life is hard and I like to see people move beyond their own limits. I have found much of my own inspiration to go further and higher from book heroines and heroes.  Writing  is my way of giving back to something that has been important to me.

Stuff I Like

  • Coffee. I can’t seem to get by without it.  I tried to give it up, several times, but…
  • Movie nights with  pizza, popcorn and beer (or wine) and don’t forget the loved ones.
  • Sunday night storms when I am all snuggled up inside.
  • Walking down the street eating a coffee ice cream in a sugar cone covered with chocolate sprinkles.
  • Scrabble, boggle, banagrams (word games, love word games).
  • Lord of the Ring Trilogy, Dr. Who. Star Trek, Disc World, True Blood and the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.
  • To quote Crash Davis in the movie Bull Durham “ long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.”

Swag

I’d like to know more about you. To win the $10 gift card, let me know one of your favorite things and your email address. The winner will be chosen using random.org random number generator at the end of all the contests on October 15.
