Three things I am grateful for

Three things I am grateful for.

On the top of my list of things to be greatful for are my readers! Your support is unwavering and it is because of you that I continue to write full-time to bring you stories to enjoy.

I am especially grateful over the last few days for my readers because of their support my latest indie-published story “Marley’s Menage” continues to rise on All Romance’s best seller list. Squeeeing! I love my readers and I am sending out a round of thanks and hugs to you all!!

Two more things I am grateful for are my two cats – CheeChee and Emily Angel.

Even on the saddest of days all I need to do is look at them and they make me smile. Especially in August of this year after the passing of Spunky, my third cat. Chee Chee and Emily were here to help me grieve. When I needed a hug, CheeChee or Emily and sometimes both were always available. They keep me cheered. Pet owners will know exactly what I mean. *grin*

Here’s are their pictures:

Internet Time Suck – Luv my Pinterest!

I don’t know how I survived without my Pinterest. Does anyone else have this problem? LOL

My pinterest name is janspringer1 and I am a pinterestaholic. There, my deep dark secret is out!

pinterest logo

I love pinning pictures onto boards. My favorite is collecting photos with similar color themes. Black Beauty, Sapphire, Emerald, Shades of Chiffon, Gold, Silver, Tiffany Blue and Copper Love, to name just a few of my color boards. My boards include themes such as birdhouses, autumn, leather & latex, man candy, christmas, the walking dead, kiss kiss and bondage, again, to name a few. At last count, if I counted right, I have more than 250 themed boards and I have the pleasure of following 2,700 pinners and am being followed by 1,800 pinners.

For my writing, I find the pictures are an inspiration. They inspire me to get ideas of where a story is going. My heroes and heroines are retrieved from my Man Candy and Heroine boards as well as from whomever is pinning hot looking hunks or interesting women at the time. I use pictures to decorate my heroes and heroines’ rooms in their houses, the cars they drive, bedrooms they make love in and even lovemaking positions.

If I see something I like, I will like it and/or pin it and I am thrilled when someone “likes” one of my pins too.

Jan’s Writing Space(s)

My Writing Space(s)

Oh! This subject is near and dear to my heart. When I first decided that writing was going to be my full-time career, I began writing literally all over the place.

Peppermint Creek Inn was my first ever finished book. The writing seed burst with this story idea and I began to sketch it out long hand while my dad and I were travelling in Northern Ontario, Canada, on one of our “ghost town” hunting trips to a place called “Jackfish”. (one of the settings in Peppermint Creek Inn)

During this time, my writing space was in the car, in the tent, by the campfire, sitting on picnic tables with the Coleman lantern and yes! even in my kayak during leisurely breaks while floating in lakes and along rivers.

a peppermint creek inn

Then as the story evolved, a trilogy began to emerge. I would think about the trilogy (Kiss Me & Intimate Stranger) while I worked on an apple farm. At night I wrote the ideas in notebooks.

Long hand writing continued at a yoyo pace around temporary office and factory jobs. During down times I went to the cottage up near Minden (no electricity at the cottage). While there, I used my Alpha Smart or wrote long hand while sitting on the lawn chair on our dock during heat waves or lounging in a hammock on a cliff overlooking the lake, and finally during the winter months on cottage visits, I sat indoors beside a cozy antique wood stove or on sunny afternoons outside on a lawn chair on the frozen lake and for company build comfy little fires built on pieces of metal to help prevent the melting ice from killing my fires. Back in civilization, I pounded the keys of my computer or laptop getting all the handwritten information in.

a hero welcome one

A Hero’s Welcome, A Hero Escapes, A Hero Betrayed, A Hero’s Kiss and the first couple of Outlaw Lovers stories where all sketched out long hand in fat notebooks while sitting in my car during cold winter evenings. Why outside? My mom babysat and I escaped the noise into my car, driving down to Lake Ontario, parking in abandoned parks. It was spooky, but it was also fun flipping on the car heater once an hour to punch through the chill and watching my stories emerge. During the days, I would pound the information into my computer at home.

Later, as my writing career took off (thank you to Ellora’s Cave!!!) and sales rocketed, I bought more stories and produced more stories and I was able to buy 4 acres of land in cottage country. I continued writing at the cottage and also commuted back and forth to my piece of paradise land to sit and write while on a hammock with pesky mosquitoes buzzing around my head.

Then I ordered a modular home and had it put onto my property. Outside my house, my writing spaces included a lawn chair with laptop and that same hammock (mentioned above). Inside my new two-bedroom office home, a sunny bedroom with computer was my office.

Edible Delights and Sinderella were outlined during a 4 day power outage following a heat wave while working longhand on my back deck in August 2006.

a edible delights

These days I continue to work in several places. My favorite is a nice quiet room over my garage, where scented candles flicker and bookshelves hold my nearest and dearest paperback books. I still write long hand as ideas pop up. To give my hands a break, sometimes I use Speech Recognition (Dragon Speech) and I have a nice printer and a couple of laptops and a computer now.

But those first few years while starting out writing in the car, are still nearest and dearest to my heart.

Writer’s Tips

I always enjoy getting writer’s tips. It helps me with my craft and so, with the help of Snoopy (awesome comic),  I thought I would share a few writer’s tips that I use.

1. Keep pumping out good books. Don’t just write one book or two books and then give up when/if you get lousy sales. You need to keep writing and keep producing, because over time you will get that fan base you want who will follow your books.

snoopy-writer

2. Take plenty of breaks. Believe me I know how easy it is to literally lose yourself for hours inside a story. I’ve experienced many writer’s highs and boy are they awesome and addictive. The problem is over time it can affect your health if you don’t take those breaks. If you are one of those writers who loses herself in a story (like me), then set up an alarm to snap yourself out of it after a half an hour or so or your health may suffer down the line with tense shoulders, headaches, etc…After a break you can get back into the story again.

3. Do your Research. Research potential publishers/agents/warnings etc… A good place to start is:  http://pred-ed.com/

snoopy right words

4. Read. More Research. More Reading. Take the time to read lots of stories that have a similar theme as yours so you can harvest ideas. Aside from plenty of reading, I make it a habit of watching movies and reading newspaper articles with similar themes. All this reading gives me ideas and allows me to get a better picture of where I want to go with my own story.

Well, that’s it for the tips for now. Glad you could stop by. If you have some of your own tips you’d like to share, feel free to post them as I am always glad to have tips!! Thanks in advance!

Shifting into a Prickly Porcupine!

We’ve been chatting about what we would like to shift into…and the first animal that popped into my mind was a porcupine!

I think that would fit my mood lately…me being so prickly and all. LOLOL

porcupine cute

Porcupines produce quills…Once when my dad and I went on a road trip, we popped into Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains in Canada. We hiked up to the Plain of Six Glaciers’ tea house near Lake Louise (see pic below). There was a lady there who was selling the most gorgeous porcupine quill jewelry.  They looked similar to these at this link and below pic of earrings.

Besides a fantastic view, the tea house had the best tasting chocolate cake and tea that I ever tasted. Apparently they bring in the food via packs on the backs of horses along the same trails the hikers come up…and I love hiking too so I would like to hang around this place if I was a porcupine. It has a great view…oh, did I mention that already?

plain-of-six-glaciers-tea-house-trail-46

And since I love salad (you’d never guess from looking at me) I’d make a good porcupine as they eat tons of greens such as leaves, green plants, skunk cabbage, twigs and bark – of course I would put in an order for chocolate covered twigs and bark.

When I was a kid I climbed trees all the time – and so do porcupines…so I would love to climb trees again as a porcupine.

And they have such a cool look, don’t you think? I love their protective armor. My dog Laura (who passed away many years ago) was into chasing porcupines…there were several times she came home with her snout riddled with quills. My dad would sigh and patiently take out the quills one by one with the pliers…what a daunting task! That sweet dog never learned. LOL

So yeah, I would love to shift into a porcupine some day. I think it would be quite the adventure. 🙂

Hugs!

Bullet Proof Kink? I’m not telling…

Bulletproof Kink — What gets you going no matter how badly it’s done?

Hmm, well I have many bulletproof kinks…which appear in my stories.…and I don’t dare confess any of my naughty kink secrets as I wish to remain mysterious in those aspects, so I’ll save them all for future stories. *wink* And if something is done badly…then I won’t be doing it again. So I guess I don’t have any if they are done badly.

Since I don’t have any that get me going if they are done badly…I’ll give you a peek at my latest futuristic erotic romance release “Sex With the Ex”. It has a wee bit of voyeurism, some bondage (ohlala – ok so maybe a bullet proof kink is bondage, but that’s all your getting out of me today) and a hot story.

“Sex With the Ex” was my very first foray into the erotic romance world back in 2002. Recently I re-wrote it for Spunky Girl Publishing. This story is naughty f/m and takes place in the future where sex drugs, sex slaves etc…it’s all legal and a very lucrative industry for the tax man. Weddings are consummated in front of the preacher, friends and friends *gasp* and tax evasion regarding adult industry profits is a big huge no no, so the government has special Squads who look into these serious matters.

SexWithTheEx (1)

Here’s a peek:

When Sex Squad Detective Sky Kelley informs her fiancé, Detective Jim O’Brien, that she wants to wait until they’re married before they have sex, he dumps her! Angry and defiant at his rejection, Sky undertakes a dangerous mission into the dark and sensual world of sex slave training on one of Saturn’s pleasure moons.

When Jim discovers Sky has volunteered for the mission, he’s enraged. She’s too pure and innocent for such a naughty assignment and he has no choice but to follow her. However, Sky isn’t anybody’s damsel in distress and she’s going to prove it in ways Jim has only dreamed about…

The Dark Side – Zombies!

I must admit, I am a huge Zombie fan. Zombies scare me and we all like to be scared, sometimes, right?

A couple of years back my oldest nephew and I were so into zombies (we still are) and we even wrote a really good outline of a post-catastrophe romance loaded with zombies. We titled it “The Dark Side”…one day I will indie publish it…we just need an ending for the story…we may even turn it into a series.

Let me give you a glimpse into how our characters were able to survive the zombie apocalypse. They had to find an estate home in the country (our story takes place in Ontario, Canada). The estate had to be surrounded by tall stone walls and a good solid gate so the zombies couldn’t get in. (Plot hint: Just make sure one of your members doesn’t get drunk and accidentally leaves the gate open so the zombies enter and kill one of your people). Or for a really good survival spot you could settle for a penitentiary like the characters have done in the horror series “The Walking Dead”.

the-walking-dead-season-3-zombie-attack

We made sure our characters had access to a decent well for water and some good fertile land for a garden so they can be self-sustainable in the fresh vegetable department. Yes, you still need to eat your veggies when the world goes zombie. And fruit trees are a must to prevent scurvy  So make sure if you ever need to find a good place to survive your zombie attack, that you have your fruit trees already there and don’t forget the Mason jars to preserve.

Our characters had to secure plenty of guns in order to target practice on the zombies that keep roaming just outside their walls. Breaking into police stations helped with that angle. Crossbows when you need to kill silently come in handy too…that is when you target sporting good stores. And you need to make sure you shoot the zombie in the brains as that’s what keeps them moving. Remember: Go for the head shot.

Trucks are a must, too, because you’ll need to do your grocery shopping for canned goods in all the abandoned grocery stores and malls. Can you picture it? For a good idea of malls and zombies, see the movie “Dawn of the Dead” with Sarah Polley.

dawnofthedead2004f

In our story “The Dark Side” we also included marijuana…yep our heroine grows her own weed….she needs it to settle her nerves because it is tough not knowing if today is your last day as a human. But she gives up the weed habit when she meets her sexy hunk hero – an escaped convict…picture actor Sam Elliot in his younger years. Picture our heroine as actress Sarah Wayne Callies named Janna…

sam_elliott5[1]

Okay so, if you are really into zombies, as I am, then you will want to try out a really neat Zombie game, Dead Frontier…”Welcome to hell” should give you a perspective of life with zombies in that scary game. http://www.deadfrontier.com

And last but not least, if you have any ideas of how to survive a zombie apocalypse. feel free to comment below and I may include it in The Dark Side! Thanks a bunch!

Hope you enjoyed our post and Happy Zombie Hunting!

Pleasure planet Paradise

Pleasure Planet

Speaking of pleasure planets…I designed one with a dark side for my Heroes at Heart series (Ellora’s Cave) and boy did I have buckets of fun with these stories. *jan laughing maniacally*

Please note: These stories are for adults only.

You see, on Paradise women rule and men are their slaves. I’ll leave it up to your wonderfully creative imagination as to exactly what type of slaves these men are to be. LOLOL. Paradise has a dark side and things can get deadly naughty when women are in charge of pleasure.

The overall series idea is this:

On the planet of Paradise, women rule and men are sex slaves. But what happens when astronauts from Earth land on the planet?

Here’s a peak at all of the stories that take place on my dark pleasure planet.  (Note: I left out A Hero Needed as that story takes place on Earth and is loosely connected to this series.)

a hero welcome one

Book 1 – A Hero’s Welcome

U.S. Astronaut Joe Hero and his two brothers are on a mission to secretly study the newly discovered planet, Paradise. When Joe is captured by a group of females who plan to turn him into a sex slave, it’s up to Slave Doctor Annie Wilkes to get him out of a life worse than death. Little does Joe know, Annie has her own sexual agenda for her handsome Hero.

a hero escapes two

Book 2 – A Hero Escapes

U.S. astronaut Ben Hero and his two brothers are on a mission to secretly study the newly discovered planet of Paradise. When Ben is captured by The Breeders, a tribe of women, he is forced to mate with the gorgeous Queen Jacey. Ben needs to escape and return to his brothers—but he craves Jacey, too. Can he overcome her training and beliefs and make her fall in love with him?

a hero betrayed three

Book 3 – A Hero Betrayed

When Buck Hero is captured by a tribe of women and infected with passion poison, fugitive Virgin must decide whether to let the stranger die or rescue the sexy Hero and administer the cure—a twenty-four-hour sex marathon.

a heros kiss four

Book 4 – A Hero’s Kiss

On a mission to the planet of Paradise in search of their missing brothers, US Astronaut Piper Hero and her two sisters are separated after crash-landing.

Infected by the deadly sensuous swamp water, Piper is tormented with arousing “fever sex dreams”. She’s rescued by the dangerously irresistible Jarod Ellis, who administers the lusty cure-wrenching climaxes that leave her breathless and so hot for sex she can’t even think straight.

Finally free from his tortured life as a sex slave, Jarod Ellis has sworn never to trust a woman again. But he’s instantly captivated by the sweet seductress Piper Hero, a women who claims to be related to the Earthmen he has vowed to protect with his life. Although he mistrusts her, she sets free untamed passions that scorch his body into a carnal inferno of sexual needs. Despite her own sexual fantasies coming true, Piper can’t forget her mission of reuniting with her siblings and she’ll do it—with or without the help of her well-hung stud.

a captive heroes

Book 5&6 – Captive Heroes – Books 5 and 6 are interwoven together into one plus sized novel, bringing the series to a close with an interesting twist that will allow me to create another series sometime in the future.

During a secret mission to locate their brothers on the faraway planet of Paradise, the Hero sisters become separated after they crashland.

Taylor and Kayla’s story

While searching for help, Kayla is bound and imprisoned by the Breeders—along with a sexy male captive, whose tantalizing scars pique her interest. She’s thankful when he rescues her, and irresistibly aroused when she becomes his captive. Wild lust flares in Kayla’s eyes—an erotic side effect of the Fever Swamp water. Taylor is going to enjoy administering the cure—lots of sizzling hot sex!

Blackie and Kinley’s story

Injured and lost in a dense jungle, Kinley is intimidated by the big, scarred man hot on her trail, especially considering the erotic power he holds over her. Capturing his beautiful female prey, Blackie can’t wait to train her as a pleasure slave. When the well-hung male slips a collar around her neck, Kinley struggles with lust as a natural submissive.

I hope you enjoyed a glimpse into my pleasure planet with a dark side.
