Of Phones, Travel and Other Random Things

I am sorry my post is going up late, but I was up until 1am last night trying to familiarise myself with my new phone. Yes, I have entered the 21st century and now have a phone that does more than, you know, make phone calls;). It is exciting to now be able to listen to music on my phone and share far more photos of my cat Emma than you ever wanted to see. But it is also rather confusing trying to figure out what all the buttons do and how to ensure that I don’t go crazy on my data use;). Still, I love my new TARDIS!

I was lucky enough to visit a friend and spend a glorious week on St. Croix, part of the US Virgin Islands. Now that I am back in snow and ice in Canada I have to share some sunny pictures to warm everyone up.

That was nice, right? I am clinging to the hope that now that it is March 1st Winter will slink away with his tail between his legs and beautiful, bouncy Spring will take over…I know, I know, but leave a crazy woman her dreams.

On the writing front I am neck-deep in book 4 of the Celestial Surrender series. It will be the final book in this series and tie up all the loose ends I’ve spread across the first three books. I am very excited to finally get around to telling Sydney, Jayden and Miguel’s story. They are all rather prickly at the moment, but fingers crossed, once I get deeper into it they will settle down and talk to me.

I am calling today the unofficial beginning of Spring. My plans for Spring include walking more and using less public transit as well as going to the Romantic Times Convention in May. Do you have any exciting or fun plans for Spring?

Happy New Year!

I hope you had a safe and happy start to the New Year!

What will 2014 look like for me?

I am hoping to write and publish more books this year than I did in 2013. I have finished DbD and am hoping to send it to my editor in the next couple of weeks. I have the outline for fourth and final book in the Celestial Surrender series and am planning 2 more books in my steampunk world.

I am going to visit a friend in St. Croix…at least I hope I will. It all depends on the timely arrival of my passport;). I am very much looking forward to sunshine and being at the beach, especially now that Toronto has temperatures of -20C (-4F). Her house is directly on the water. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the passport arrives in time.

I am also planning to attend the Romantic Times convention in May in New Orleans. I have never been before, but it looks like a lot of fun. I’ve been to New Orleans before and I have a few days before the convention starts to do sightseeing. Bring on the beignets;).

In between all that I am looking forward to hanging out with my friends, seeing movies like this (sooo excited!),

spend time with my cat and read 125 books. I discovered today that Laurell K. Hamilton has a new Meredith Gentry book coming in June, A Shiver of Light. It’s been years since a book in that series and I cannot wait.

What about you? Have you got any plans for 2014?

Geronimo! Travelling with the Doctor!

What time do I want to live in? All of them, which is why I am hijacking this

There are just so many times to explore and I am not sure I’d actually would want to live in them. I remember reading a book where a modern woman travelled back to the Regency era. She was so excited to explore her favourite time until she opened the front door of the London house and got a whiff of the stench that must have been around during that time.

I imagine I probably would experience the same thing;). And a number of us have said it already:  chances are I won’t be one of the rich and famous, but some minion who has a short, hard life.

So, instead I’ll travel with the Doctor (any of them will be just fine, but David Tenant would be at the top of my list), jump throughout time, save the universe every other day and not have to worry about making a living when electricity is not around.

My first trip will be to meet Her Majesty Queen Victoria and, like Rose, I will do everything in my power to have her say “We are not amused!”;). Other than that I’d hang out for a few days to do some research for my next steampunk novel, the sequel to Rescue by Ruin.

The next stop would be the future, maybe the year 2000 or 3000 (maybe all the way to the end of earth), just so see what’s happening and what has changed. After saving whoever we bumped into, possibly nearly falling into a black whole and fighting some ancient evil, I’ll take the Doctor for a drink and check out the bars around town. In Tangled Indulgence I introduced a bar, Indulgence, and a connected sex club, Lust. I am considering starting a new series set in Indulgence/Lust, which means I need to do some research…

After ticking both of those off my list I am pretty much open to any time. It would be nice to see the pyramids and meet the Incas before their civilization was destroyed. I wouldn’t mind seeing a true samurai or a cowboy.

That’s me, footloose and fancy free and accompanying the Doctor. If you’re a Whovian like me, what is one of your favourite episodes and in what time period does it take place?

Tina’s Give-Away and the Final Chapter on Introductions

Hello, hello, hello.

Welcome to Darker Temptations and this amazing collection of authors. Well, and my very first post. As this is an introduction, let me just put the kettle on so we can settle down for a good cuppa and a nice chat.

I’m a Brit who likes to travel. I’ve lived in Germany, in England and have (finally? for now? who knows;) settled in Toronto, Canada. I have a tea store in my cupboard and need the ability to boil water to survive. Even when I was in South Africa, with 40C in the shade, I couldn’t do without my obsess—my tea.

Out of all the places I have seen Japan and Alaska are probably my favourite. Japan is an incredible mixture of old and new. Within only a few steps you can see the latest in modern art and then set foot into a temple older than history. Certain experiences and discoveries may find their way into my next futuristic series. Lots of ideas, nothing confirmed yet:). I loved Alaska because of its wilderness. We have nothing like in Europe and hiking for half a day and only seeing two other people is just mind-boggeling;).

I’ve been a romance reader since I was a teen, discovering the genre with Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and Johanna Lindsey and then moving on to every author I could lay my hands on. Of course I had plenty of stories in my head as well and finally started to write them down. Most of those stories will never see the light of day, but they led me to Galen and Nikolai, the heroes of my
first paranormal sci-fi novel Tangled Shadows. It is the first in a planned quartet. The second book, Tangled Hunger, is also available and book 3 is with my beta reader.

I love writing sci-fi. The possibilities are endless. You can reimagine and reinvent whole worlds. That is why I also love writing steampunk. You have certain parameters that should be followed, but you can add in all sorts of cool gadgets and amazing What Ifs. My first sexy steampunk novel,

Rescue by Ruin, comes out November 2nd.

Every reader is also a traveller. By opening a book you enter new worlds and experience whole lifetimes. If you could travel anywhere in time and space, where would you travel to?

At this point in time I would love to see Hawaii (sorry, too much Hawaii Five-O;) and the rainforest before it’s destroyed. I’d love to say I want to meet Elizabeth I or Queen Victoria, but I have to admit I love my creature comforts too much, so I would travel to the future.

You’ve hung in there and made it to the end. Here are the give-away details: I’m giving away a copy of your choice of Tangled Shadows, Tangled Hunger or, if you can wait a little, Rescue by Ruin to a commenter who tells me where and when she would like to travel to.

Thanks for visiting!
